WATCH: Films & documentaries

  • Ears, eyes and throats. This collection of short restored & lost films represents a hint of the tectonic shift in the underground film world in connection with the punk rock movement. Restored from original negatives, it showcases the reasonably well-known alongside the extremely rare, from music shorts to impressionistic documentaries. View them here.

  • All the Beauty and the Bloodshed. In the 1980s Nan Goldin's arresting images transformed the cinema and art photography worlds. A recent documentary directed by Laura Poitras traces Goldin's evolution from artist to activist. See the trailer here.

Our favourite pick:

  • The Ultimate Samsara. Based on the Chinese folklore "The Classic of Mountains and Seas", the sublime short film explores the concept of life and death in Chinese culture in a modern context, integrating the Metaverse and inspired by the fashion brand Sankuanz's concept of chaos and order.   • Future thoughts. F**kture podcast series, hosted by The Future Laboratory's co-founder Martin Raymond, asks renowned thinkers to put foresight predictions under the hindsight spotlight. Listen to the episodes here.

  • Sound Retrospective.   • Digital Art Biennial. (BIAN) is back for a 6th edition this winter at Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal. To close this cycle around metamorphosis, 27 artists from 4 continents will address the process of MUTATION, through the mobility and movement of human beings, ideas or identities. TOOLS & Workshops

  • Future Aesthetics. AI-generated artwork is quietly beginning to reshape culture. Over the last few years, the ability of machine learning systems to generate imagery from text has increased drastically in quality, accuracy, and expression is impressive. DALL-E is one of the many platforms that you can now experiment with to create images. Check out other platforms such as Runway or Stable diffusion & Midjourney.

  • From 2D to 3D digitization. Recent advances in image-based 3D human shape estimation have been driven by significant improvements in converting 2D images into 3D renders.
